Scheduled
Information Technology Services (ITS) will be conducting scheduled maintenance on PeachNet Cloud Backup Services Avamar between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Monday, November 27, 2017 (ET).

Upgrade to Avamar 7.4.1
A new Admin Console will need to be downloaded and installed.

If you have a vCenter integration, 7.4.1 proxies will need to be re-deployed once the 7.4.1 upgrade is complete. You can delete the 7.2.1 proxies and deploy them as VM’s with the same IP addresses. Please coordinate the timing of the deletion and deployment of proxies with sss-bk@usg.edu so we will be able to confirm that the proxies register correctly.

Both the new Admin Console and the OVA for re-deployment of the proxies downloads will be available from the following URL after the upgrade is complete: https://db300avm01.bor.usg.edu/dtlt/home.html

We will be able to push out updates to the Avamar client via the Avamar Client Manager. We have used this method in the past with great success. Normally we will wait a few days after the upgrade before we start pushing out any updates. We will also communicate with you prior to making any changes. If you want to manually update the clients yourself, you may download the new software from https://db300avm01.bor.usg.edu/dtlt/home.html after the upgrade.

Please note that with the upgrade to 7.4.1 :
- We now have support for VMware vCenter 6.5
- Avamar no longer supports Windows Server 2003
- EMC recommends not upgrading Exchange DAG plug-in to 7.4.1 due to a bug.

Decommissioning Data Domains
We have recently changed the Avamar server to require that all backup data be directed to a Data Domain as the backup target. In the Activity Window under “Server” you will see “DD - db300dd03.bor.usg.edu” where it once might have said “Avamar”. We have slowly made this change behind the scenes over the last year or so. In the past, some backups were sent to two other Data Domains, db300dd01 and db300dd02. These two will be decommissioned.

If you do not manage your datasets nor run ad-hoc manual backups the following can be disregarded:
Please do not send backups to these devices as they will be turned off sometime in the next two months (you can select them if you run a manual backup and you can add them to a dataset). If you send a backup to them, we cannot guarantee you will have that backup available for restore. If you run a backup and get the error “No DD” then make sure you are selecting the correct Data Domain path.

During this maintenance window, the PeachNet Cloud Backup Services will remain up.
